I've lost all the stitching projects I was working on -- temporarily, I hope.
At first, I was extremely frustrated. One was meant to be a gift, another was a bag for my tarot cards. I'm attached to these pieces. They're pieces of me. What will my hands do, with no thread and needle?
In a fit of boredom, alone in the house with nothing to do, I decided to go searching. Without my embroidery threads, and not wanting to start a large project, my options were limited. I kept my mind open. And then... I hit the jackpot.
In high school I took an art class where we experimented with various ways of dying fabric. We did some shibori, and batik, and tie dying. I've kept the samples of my dying, though I never had any idea what I might do with them. They're just little squares. In my desperate hunt for something to occupy my fingers, I came across those bits of color. Sparks of joy shot through me.
I happily sat on the couch, sorting and folding, playing with different combinations. I decided to quarter some of the squares and stitch them together by hand. Orange is the color of choice, it seems, and so I found a couple cloths that featured orange. What I'll do with it, I still don't know. But I cut, and I ironed, and I found a stray hank of orange embroidery thread.
